NPI Combines Work with Leisure

South Burlington, VT – July 18, 2008

NPI staff combined their annual Staff Retreat with Community Day by loading up life vests and picnic fare and heading to West Haven, Vermont to meet with a representative of The Nature Conservancy, Calvin Maginel. Calvin led them down a bumpy, narrow dirt road to canoes and instructions on how to recognize and pull up the invasive lake weed Water Chestnut. Focused on the task at hand, the end of Lake Champlain was scoured for the pesky water plants. At the end of many hours of paddling, more than forty pounds of the noxious weed had been pulled by the NPI team. The NPI team compared their loot while enjoying a well-earned picnic lunch at a secluded spot overlooking beautiful cliffs and nesting peregrine falcons.
